How a Lawn Care Company Became a Game

Thank you to DETERMINED Husky, VintageRadio and Rarse for the feedback. We have applied an update that takes into account some the suggestions. Here is an overview of some of the major changes:

- Characters now animate when travelling vertically.

- Characters do not automatically re-spawn when they leave the screen. Instead, they can leave/reenter.

- An initial prompt is now given to click/press when the first cut scene appears.

- We have slowed the main character down, both in terms of acceleration and max velocity.

- We have expanded on the black/white transition to color in a later cut scene.

And now, a bit of backstory.

A long time ago, in the late 00s, three friends / unemployed university graduates, got the great idea to start an environmentally friendly lawn care company. Anyone who has started a business before knows the key to success is drawing lots of funny pictures for advertisements, and also getting into long debates with your business partners about whether the company should be called, “Green Earth Lawns,” or, the more ambiguous, “Earth Friend.” Also important to the planning process, lots of music breaks, lots of peanut butter-honey sandwich breaks, and lots of general break time.

As you’ve probably already guessed, after mowing a few lawns, our business folded – or did it? Here we are about 15 years later, and it turns out some of that old peanut-butter-honey inspired creative stuff, like drawing and music has found it’s way back to a different venture, the video game, Gordon City (formerly project Earth Friend).

This is the perfect back story for this game - sounds like the boring world of lawn care has turned into the exciting world of Gordon City! Great work and I hope the characters in the game decide to start a lawn care business at some point too!
